Reading Ezra Jack Keats

Kindergarten has been learning that every story has three parts, a beginning, middle and an end. We read the book, Peter's Chair by Ezra Jack Keats. The story is about a boy who recently became a big brother and noticed his parents painting all of his old furniture, pink. He sees one of his old chairs and decides to take it before they paint it as well. Throughout the story we see how the boy comes to realize his old things were too small for him and he eventually wants to give his chair to his little sister and helps his parents paint it pink.

We split the story up and the children made a picture illustrating the beginning of the story on yellow paper, the middle was drawn on green paper and the end on pink paper. We will be hanging our illustrations of the story in our classroom.
