In Kindergarten, we are learning what makes a good reader. Some of the reading techniques we learned are
A Good Reader:
Looks at the pictures to figure out the words
Looks at the beginning and ending sounds to figure out a word
Looks for patterns when they read
Use their magic finger to keep their place
Use return sweep when reading
Makes sure what they read makes sense to the illustrations.
The children also learned each book has a front and back cover. Authors write the book and illustrators are the ones who draw the pictures. There are times when the author and illustrator are the same person.

Our classroom has an Author's Corner. This month we learned about Eric Carle.
